Beta Chapter: university at buffalo
In the Fall of 1996, the founding sisters of the Beta Chapter approached the Alpha Chapter sisters of Kappa Phi Lambda Sorority about the possibility of expanding the sorority to their campus. The State University of New York at Buffalo had only one other Asian-interest sorority at this time, which did not provide a choice for Asian women on campus. The Charter Class began their application process, and in January, 1997, they began their intake process under the guidance of Jane Vorachart, their Program Educator. After weeks of hard work and dedication, the Beta Chapter of Kappa Phi Lambda Sorority was established at the University at Buffalo. These founding sisters are Sandy Choi, Betty Ng, Jean Ra, Lesley Wong, Doreen Xia and Jennifer Yip. It is their founding legacy that lives on today at the University at Buffalo. Since their establishment, the founding sisters have guided the new sisters to continue their goals of providing service for the community and promoting Asian Awareness. Kappa Phi Lambda Sorority Inc., was formed to increase options for the diverse student body at the State University at Buffalo. Our sorority was established in the Spring of 1997 at the University at Buffalo to pursue cultural awareness. In the midst of multiculturalism, we are here to continue the pursuit of unity and to bring forth the much needed consciousness of "voices" that need to be heard. As the legacy continues, the founding sisters, though all have graduated, continues to keep close ties with new sisters that cross with each semester. Distance is no obstruction - it is true sisterhood which can break all. |
